Advice on getting my first piercings of ears for cogs?

I would like to pierce my ears and get a natural cog for them. Something like bamboo or the like. My question is really intended on the size that is best for an inital piercing. I also have ears that connect versus an ear with much of a lobe. My lobe is realy pretty dinky to be honest. Any information would be great and thank you!
