Why has the World Bank not made a bigger contribution to the abolition of poverty in developing countries?

Hi all, I am thinking if someone could put some light on the question above. I am an Indian and India is not very much benefited by world bank even though they seems to try hard to eradicate poverty(like IBRD and IDA are trying to do). What must be the problem behind this. I would also appreciate if someone could tell me where to get infromation about this issue.
